If you're here, it's because you've seen the future and realize that analog copper telephone lines are so last century. Called POTS lines (meaning "Plain Old Telephone Service"), copper phones lines are simply outdated and highly overpriced links to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). If you've got a broadband connection to the internet, you're ready for digital telephone service commonly known as VoIP for Voice over Internet Protocol.
We're here to offer guidance while you navigate this brave new world of telecommunications.
As we construct this site, please consider this. One of the greatest benefits to VoIP is your ability to gain more control over the services you receive. Monopolies are simply a thing of the past in telecommunications and that's a huge benefit to anybody willing to shop and learn about their options.
Presently, we are strongly recommending that consumers consider obtaining VoIP service from a provider called Callcentric. This company offers some of the most competitive rates, the most user-friendly web portal, and the most open set of features allowing consumers to tailor the service to meet their specific needs. In fact, Callcentric is so focused on providing a great service that they don't offer any of the hardware you will likely need to use their service with you home or business telephones. They are strictly a BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) provider. (Actually, if you want to make and receive calls strictly from your computer they offer a free "Softphone" which requires no hardware other than speakers and a microphone attached to your PC.)
If you need hardware, we're here to help. One of the most comfortable ways to ease from POTS service to VoIP is to use a box called an "ATA" (analog telphony adapter). It bridges your internet service to your home or office analog telephone wiring and allows your present analog telephones to make and receive calls through your VoIP service provider. For a great starter package, we recommend bundling Callcentric phone service with a Linksys brand ATA called the PAP2T-NA from Cisco Systems. The PAP2T is often provided by a VoIP service provider as part of their service, but often those devices are "locked" to work only with that service provider.
The "NA" portion of the part number indicates that the device we suggest is "unlocked" and not restricted to any one VoIP provider. We are now selling the PAP2T-NA through our parent company, inksite inc., a leader in e-commerce sales of ink and toner cartridges.
About our name: Anyone with a background in telephony will recognize the play on words. It has nothing to do with beverages. SIP is an acronym for Session Initiation Protocol which is the leading technology for transacting VoIP calls over the internet. SIP and RING is a twist on the term "TIP and RING" which refer to the connection points on those big old connectors that switchboard operators of the past would plug in to complete telephone call circuits. Long after those manual switchboards disappeared, the terms tip and ring continue to help technicians identify wires on analog phone circuits.
